Haubi Song’s single Cavaglio is reaching us somewhere between personal tragedy and a generation’s depression. The song takes the listener to a place in the Piedmont region and into the epicenter of a failed relationship. He sings of jealousy out of self-pity, the struggles of being either too close or not close enough and summons up the meaning of love and heartache in times of a global pandemic. Tasty retro synths and Haubi Song’s unique and playful way of using language convey a feeling of ironic distance and steady composure, as if he wants to convince the listener that he’s got everything under control. But in the songs you hear the fragile facade fading. And even the fading is cool, still.

Cavaglio is a perfect feel-bad-hit for the summer and adds a wonderful pearl to the collection of half songs crafted by Haubi Songs. Another landmark in the art of spontaneity. Never has a nervous breakdown sounded more beautiful, or been more fun to tap your foot to.
